Fall Fest

(Word count: 405)

Fall Fest!!!! (October 16, weekend of Week 6), 1300-1600

In the words of the school... with some annotation from me.

"The fall festival is the annual Amherst College community event featuring fabulous (yeah OK it's free!! and there's lots of it) fall foods and music by Amherst College students (all the acapella groups come and sing -- they're really good -- and it's great to come show support because for many new members this was actually they're first performance).

Entertainment includes an enormous inflated obstacle course (it's for the kids, not really for students), pumpkin carving and painting, an inflatable 16-foot tandem slide (I didn't see this?!) and horse-drawn hayrides (horse manure!!111 fantastic). Face-painting and a variety of games (throwing hackysacks into holes, great fun, best sunday ev3r) are available for all participants.

Valentine Dining services provides a Chowder House (ok no joke this was good, I had 4 servings, i will have to beat this next year of course) of steaming New Hampshire corn chowder and New England clam chowder together with lobster salad sliders; Val's Smoke Haus features pulled pork (don't waste the stomach space), chicken and beef brisket sliders and hot chocolate with marshmallows. The Apple Barn features fresh-made apple cider doughnuts coated in cinnamon (classic), and caramel and candied apples (splooge), hot mulled cider (my favorite word??? possibly), apple crisp and apple pie; the Pumpkin Patch offers fried pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cheese cake, pumpkin cupcakes and whoopie pies. The s'mores corner is tucked in next to the ice cream truck (it runs out early, so hurry up and get here when doors open1!!) and provides a warm alternative to the cold ice cream. Our vendors distribute fried dough, cider doughnuts, caramel corn and freshly squeezed citrus drinks (longest line by far, by the time I got my drink, there was only a pina colada flavor...). Maple Valley Farms brings their old-fashioned truck that lends an air of nostagia to the event. Ice cream in flavors of pumpkin, pumpkin oreo and pumpkin spice (you pH15.0 gals, I be looking at y'all) round out the fall hits.

This Amherst College event is a community event open to all Amherst College students, faculty, staff and their families."
